BYD, the Chinese EV company, has taken the unusual step of branching out into deep-sea shipping, quietly building an armada of giant, car-carrying cargo ships to transport its electric cars overseas.

We obtained data tracking BYD's fleet over the past three years, showing how the Tesla rival is flooding ports in Europe and the Americas with thousands of EVs. I analyzed the shipping data and made this interactive map.
